is our data secure yet???
We are living in a world where our data is collected constantly by various parties. This data has a huge potential which is uncertain and putting ourselves at risk. This collection of data is hampering our autonomy and may lead to even surveillance. This is creating a sense of uncertainity and raising concerns about our dignity and bodily integrity.
As the Right to Privacy is a fundamental right granted by our constitution, how far is that being protected. Many people are humiliated and discriminated based on their caste, sex and other aspects. There is a lot of sensitive data with the government protected by various laws and rules but it is argued that India should adopt 'rights based' approach rather than todays 'constant based' model where the data controller is free to use, process and share the data with the third parties but with the consent.
However, not many are aware of the consequences of providing consent. Whereas the rights based approach provides a greater autonomy by ensuring that the rights are not breached.
At the end it is always good to be cautious and read the consent forms before signing them and hope Data protection bill brings the security of data which every individual is hope for.
